Japan has a special kind of obsession with school girls that is unlike like any other country’s. On an everyday basis, school girls are commercialized and sold as a product and the exploitation of school girls is so rampant that there is almost an unconscious (or perhaps conscious) condoning of and a sense of normalization to the practice. In the following video, Simon Ostrovsky from VICE News investigates just this obsession as he speaks to both the girls who work in the Japanese rent-a-date industry (e.g., joshi-kosei osanpo workers, performers and café girls who are hired for conversation) and the individuals who rescue exploited girls.
