Yeonmi Park is a TV personality, a reporter and a human rights activist. She is also a North Korean defector.
Park was born in Hyesan, Ryanggang, North Korea in 1993. She grew up witnessing various human rights violations like the ghostings (i.e., kidnappings by the government that most likely resulted in torture, imprisonment and/or execution) and public executions of neighbors and friends. To her, this was normal as this was all she that had ever known, but when her own father was arrested for illegal trading and he was sentenced to a labor camp, Park and her family decided to make a break from North Korea to China. Below is a video of Yeonmi Park where Park discusses these very events and describes what exactly happened when she and her family defected.
