The following video is a performance piece by Brenna Twohy called “Fantastic Breasts and Where To Find Them” that she performed at the 2014 National Poetry Slam.
In the piece, Twohy addresses how people think her interest in Harry Potter erotica is unrealistic. Twohy contests these opinions, and she argues that porn (which is used by many as an example of what sex “should” look like) is incredibly problematic (at least as it currently stands) and she examines how porn is currently fueling unrealistic standards for both men and women. More specifically, Twohy cites how boys are teased for being virgins, how men are trained not to take “no” for an answer and how women have trouble identifying abusive relationships because they think being abused is normal (can anyone say Twilight?).
Opinions on porn are definitely varied, ranging from those who believe that nothing good can ever come from porn to those who see zero problems with the field, but regardless of your personal opinions about the topic, Twohy does have some very valid points about the systematic effects of porn so give the above video a shot and see what you think.
